Vomit Comet photo log, day 1: Ottawa to Las Vegas (2009/09/17)

0730h: The adventure begins.  Mike picks us up in his Yaris.  It was just barely big enough to comfortably hold the 3 of us and all our crap.

0801h: We arrive at the Ottawa airport.  Both our backpacks are larger than the maximum size allowed for carry-ons and my luggage is larger than the maximum size allowed for checked bags.  They only seemed concerned with weight.  The maximum weight for a checked bag is 50lbs.  Mine only weighed 42lbs on their scales -- phew.

1326h: We fly over a nuclear power plant somewhere in the US.  It's the first time I've seen one from the air.

1759h: After getting to our hotel (The Wild Wild West), we were too tired to travel far for dinner, and there was an In-N-Out burger across the street so we ate there.  They had an old-timey charm to their methods.  You could watch the fry-guy start with a big bag of potatoes, wash them, cut them, fry them, salt them and finally fill the fry plates.  He had a neat way of dropping the fries from up high and then quickly scooping the paper fry tray below to catch them as they fell.  You could tell he'd had a lot of practice.

1856h: The end of our first day.  We got to see a McSunset over the hills to the West.  The air temperature was 35°C, but once the sun set, it was much easier to stand the heat.
